CryoPen is an advanced cryotherapy device used by trained professionals to remove benign skin lesions with millimetre precision. It delivers a fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide directly onto the targeted area, rapidly freezing and destroying the unwanted tissue without cutting the skin. Because the applicator does not touch the skin and the flow can be carefully directed, only the lesion is treated while unnecessary damage to the surrounding tissue is minimised.

Following a consultation and skin assessment, CryoPen may be suitable for treating:

• Skin tags

• Common warts

• Verrucas

• Age spots and sun spots

• Cherry angiomas

• Milia

• Seborrhoeic keratoses

• Molluscum contagiosum

• Certain other benign skin lesions

We will only treat lesions that can be confidently identified as benign and suitable for cryotherapy. Moles and any lesion that appears unusual, has recently changed or cannot be clearly identified will require assessment and approval from an appropriate medical professional before treatment.

During treatment, the CryoPen applicator is held close to the lesion and a precise jet of nitrous oxide is applied. The extreme cold freezes the unwanted cells, causing them to break down. The treated lesion will then naturally dry, form a scab or gradually shed as the skin heals.

Treatment time depends on the type, size, depth and location of the lesion. Many small lesions can be treated in just a few seconds, although thicker or deeper lesions may take longer and could require more than one session.

Most clients tolerate CryoPen treatment well. You may feel a cold, sharp or stinging sensation while the lesion is being frozen, followed by mild tingling or tenderness for a short time afterwards. Anaesthetic is not usually required because the cold itself has a temporary numbing effect. Sensitivity can vary depending on the treatment area and the size or depth of the lesion.

The treated area may initially appear red, swollen or slightly raised. A blister can sometimes form, and the lesion may become darker before forming a dry crust or scab. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Allow the area to heal naturally and avoid picking or scratching it. Healing time varies according to the lesion and treatment area and can take approximately two to six weeks. Temporary lightening or darkening of the skin can occur following cryotherapy and may be more noticeable in deeper skin tones.

Your practitioner (Jo) will explain the expected healing process and provide personalised aftercare instructions during your appointment.

Many small, superficial lesions respond well to one CryoPen session. However, larger, deeper or more persistent lesions including some warts and verrucas may require additional treatments.

A follow-up appointment may be recommended to check how the area has healed and determine whether another session is needed. Results and treatment requirements vary from person to person.

CryoPen will not be appropriate for every client or every skin lesion. Please tell your practitioner about any medical conditions, medication or previous skin concerns during your consultation.

Further medical advice may be required for clients with:

• Reduced sensation in the treatment area

• Poor circulation

• Open wounds or active skin infections

• Hypersensitivity to cold

• Certain heart conditions

• A history of skin cancer

• An unidentified, changing or suspicious skin lesion
